Challenge

The MTMD needed to address a critical section of Highway Pie-IX, known for heavy congestion and frequent accidents.

To improve traffic flow and enhance road safety, the Ministry planned to install a variable message sign (VMS) above the roadway to provide real-time information to drivers.

Key challenges:

• Designing and installing a walk-in VMS mounted on a gantry structure

• Strict compliance with Canadian highway and bridge structure standards (CAN/CSA-S6)

• Providing complete technical documentation for Ministry approval

• Seamless integration with MTMD’s JamLogic traffic management system, in accordance with NTCIP protocols

Solution Proposed by Orange Traffic

Given the urgency and complexity of the mandate, Orange Traffic was entrusted with developing a tailored solution.

Key steps of the intervention:

• Development of a fully customized walk-in VMS meeting the MTMD’s high standards
• Submission of a comprehensive technical report, including:
  
  
  • Factory test results
  • Complete structural calculations
  • Construction details
  • Installation, operation, and maintenance manuals
  • Proof of compliance with the Ministry’s technical requirements
• Execution of NTCIP compatibility tests to ensure seamless integration with JamLogic software
• Ongoing collaboration with the electrical contractor and MTMD representatives to ensure compliance at every project phase
